You can get a fillet of fish done all the way through and just barely browned on top, or choose your steak to be rare, well done, or in between.

The flavor, the aroma, and the appearance of broiled food cannot be equaled by other methods using lower heat. Longer cooking times, and perhaps moisture. You can also put a microwaved dish under the broiler for a quick browning, making it look and smell more like it was oven baked. This will be much faster and waste less energy than if you do the same thing in a large, conventional oven.

Extra convenience is offered by glass doors, timers and automatic on and off switches, touch controls with preset functionality, and digital controls. If you prefer the more conventional dial controls so you can set the temperature yourself, this is still an option in some models.
